Tips for a Flawless Global Supply Chain – Trucking Part One

There are many factors that go into choosing the best less than truckload and truckload carrier partners. It’s a complicated process but these tips will help you to make the right decisions:

  1. Ask for a quote and a breakdown on the pricing structure. Make sure the weights and number of pallets being shipped is accurate so they’re able to stay on top of the costs to remain competitive.
  2. Consolidate the orders to try and reduce the expense of the shipping. By doing so you’re able to pass on the savings to your customers and provide increased value for your services.
  3. It will help you to provide flexible transit times to your carriers; it’s a great way to save money.
  4. Always build relationships with the carriers that are in charge of handling your shipments. If they use other carriers in other areas of the country or the world make sure you know who is in charge of that route and know who is responsible.
  5. Help improve the flow by re-evaluating your docking procedures. The freight should be ready and waiting for the arrival of the driver to save time and to ensure the driver doesn’t leave before the load has been placed on the truck.
  6. Make your expectations know by creating metrics and working methods to measure the performance of the carrier. If you find the carriers are not performing to your expectations get in touch with them to resolve the problems.
