What are some of the Definitions in Green Procurement you need to know about?

Green procurement is when purchases of environmentally friendly products and services conform with green procurement preference programs. The products or services purchased had a reduced impact on the environment over the entire life cycle compared with the standard equivalent products or services available.

The impact on the environment and environmental issues are taken into account, so fewer natural resources are consumed; waste is reduced along with reduced pollution. Many considerations are taken into account while purchasing decisions are made. A typical green procurement program includes the following elements:
  • Alternative fuels
  • Bio-based products
  • Environmental protection priority chemicals
  • Energy efficient products
  • Energy efficient power devices
  • Fuel efficient vehicles
  • Ozone free exhausting substances
  • Products that contain recycled content
  • Standby power devices
