What are the Characteristics of Real Time Value Chain?

There are several activities that make up the value chain. This is part of the real time processing that relates to how quickly a system is able to respond once a transaction has been made. The value chain involves the demand value and supply value chains along with all the various activities that support the demand and supply for the organisation.

The Demand Value Chain

The demand value chain will take care of all the demand generation that takes place within the marketing and sales departments. Marketing and sales will provide the means that buyers are able to buy the products and encourage them to do so. Along with the marketing and sales it also includes the demand fulfillment for the outbound logistics. This includes and relating services.

The Supply Value Chain

This is where the procurement takes place along with the inbound logistics and operations.  The inbound logistics involves receiving, sorting, inventory control, material handling and organisation transportation.  Operations that are also included in the supply value chain are:
  • Equipment maintenance
  • Facility operations
  • Machining
  • Packaging
  • Testing
These real time processes need to be focused on the optimisation of the performance as well as reducing downtime and improving the overall quality.
