What is the role of process and information management in eBusiness?

Information and communication technology is used to streamline processes and allow the seamless flow of information. It is still a powerful tool that can be used to gain a competitive advantage in the marketplace. Yes, ICT is now very common and the norm in many cases, but it can still provide a competitive advantage regardless of this fact. ICT is especially powerful when a strong ICT infrastructure is in place. Some of the indicators for the readiness of companies looking to venture into or improve their eBusiness operations include:
  •        ERP systems
  •         Narrow and broadband Internet access
  •         An online presence giving information regarding eBusiness activities

Adoption to eBusiness is high in industrialised countries, but the use of ERP systems and supply chain management systems still needs some work.  Therefore we are not yet ready to completely replace paper-based trading with the electronic alternative. The use of sophisticated information systems is not as widespread as it should be which is why it’s still possible to gain a competitive advantage using ICT.
